Mare Cycle & Pregnancy Tracking

📍 Find this in the app: the heart icon on any mare — Admin Panel → Stables → Boarded Horses (/admin/stables/horses), or on the mare's own detail page

For every mare, the system keeps a simple breeding log: her heat cycles, insemination dates, and — once she's covered — her pregnancy and due date. It lives alongside the rest of her records, so you don't need a separate spreadsheet or calendar.

Opening the cycle popup​

Wherever a mare appears — the Boarded Horses roster, or her own detail page — she has a heart icon. Click it to open the cycle popup. (The icon only shows on mares; geldings and stallions don't have it.)

From the popup you can:

  • Add a cycle — record the date a heat cycle started, so you can anticipate the next one.
  • Add an insemination date — log when the mare was covered or inseminated, and by which stallion (the sire).

Tracking a pregnancy​

Once a mare is confirmed in foal, mark her as pregnant from the same popup and record the sire. You can also enter an expected foaling date if the vet has given you one. From then on:

  • She's included in the pregnant mares counter on the admin home page, so the stable can see at a glance how many mares are in foal.
  • Foaling reminders fire about 20 days before she's due. The due date is the expected foaling date you entered, or — if you didn't enter one — her insemination date plus roughly 340 days of gestation. The mare's owner gets a reminder about their own mare, and admins get the whole stable's foaling list in the daily 07:00 summary (see Notifications).
  • On the Boarded Horses roster you can filter to pregnant mares and sort by next cycle or due date. Filtering to pregnant mares surfaces cycle, sire and due-date details in one view.

Once the mare actually foals, register the outcome from the same popup — see Registering a Birth.

How it relates to health records​

The breeding log sits next to the mare's health records (vaccinations and farrier visits), but it's a separate log focused on breeding — cycles, coverings, and due dates rather than vet and hoof care.
