Match My Mare

Match My Mare helps a mare owner find the right stallion in your public directory — transparently, with named reasons instead of a black-box score.

It is part of the Stallion Profiles feature (a PRO add-on). Once that is switched on, your stallions appear at /stallions and the Match My Mare panel sits on top of that directory. See Managing Stallion Profiles and Feature Flags.

For mare owners

On the public stallion directory, open the Match My Mare panel and describe your mare. The directory re-ranks the stallions on the spot — nothing reloads, no results page.

The main question: what could your mare use more of?

Match My Mare is complementary. It looks for a sire who is strong exactly where your mare could improve — not a sire who simply has more of what you already like.

Pick one or two of:

  • Scope & power
  • Technique & carefulness
  • Blood & sharpness
  • Canter quality
  • Movement & elasticity
  • Rideability & trainability

The panel says it plainly: pick one or two, and a good match corrects a weakness — it doesn't pile on. Choosing everything tells the tool nothing.

Optional details

You can also add, if you want to narrow things further:

  • Discipline(s) you're aiming for
  • Temperament you'd like the foal to have
  • Rider level — amateur or professional
  • Mare height — if you give it, any sire that is 4 cm or more taller than your mare is flagged "Adds height"

Reading the results

Every ranked stallion shows plain-language reasons for the match — for example "Adds blood", "Improves the canter", "Show jumping", "Adds height". There is never a percentage and never a genetic or "AI compatibility" score. You stay in control of the decision.

The panel never shows an empty page. If nothing lines up with your selections, it lists every available stallion with a short note that there was no strong complement.

Sending an inquiry

When you contact a stable about a stallion, your Match My Mare selections carry into the insemination inquiry, so the stable can see what you were matching on. See Insemination Inquiries.

For stable managers

Match My Mare only ranks a stallion well if you've told the platform what he passes on. Edit the horse in the admin panel (with Stallion Profiles enabled) and fill in the stallion fields.

Improves / known for

This is the field that drives Match My Mare. In the "Improves / known for" section, tick the traits the stallion is known for passing on to his foals — the same list a mare owner picks from:

  • Scope & power
  • Technique & carefulness
  • Blood & sharpness
  • Canter quality
  • Movement & elasticity
  • Rideability & trainability

Tick only what is genuinely true of his offspring. When a mare owner asks for "more canter" and you've ticked Canter quality, that stallion rises to the top with the reason "Improves the canter".

The other stallion fields

Fill these in too — they refine the ranking and the public profile (all are covered in Managing Stallion Profiles):

  • Temperament — from the curated trait list
  • Suitable For — amateur or professional riders
  • Stud fee
  • Semen availability — fresh, chilled, or frozen
  • Notable offspring
  • Fertility note

Make sure the stallion's height is recorded on his horse record, so that "Adds height" can be computed when a mare owner enters their mare's height.
